Journal
Notaday Pro
The Journal requires an active Notaday Pro plan. Without Pro, opening the Journal shows an upgrade prompt instead of your entries.
The Journal is your space for reflection, personal notes, and keeping track of how your days actually feel — beyond just what got done. Write freely, add context like your mood and the weather, attach photos or documents, and look back on it all whenever you want.
Finding Your Entries
The Journal list gives you a quick overview of everything you've written:
- Search by title or content to jump straight to an entry.
- Filter by all entries, today, this week, this month, or your favorites.
- Browse through pages of entries at a comfortable size.
- Each entry appears as a card you can open, edit, or delete.
Writing An Entry
Opening an entry gives you a clean writing space with a rotating title prompt to help you get started, a live word count, and a save action whenever you're ready.
You can format your writing with headings, lists, quotes, and section breaks, just like a regular document.
Focus Mode hides everything else on the page — sidebar, context panels, all of it — so you can write without distraction. Turn it on whenever you want to concentrate purely on the words.
Adding Photos, Files, And PDFs
Right from the writing area, you can attach more than just text:
- Images — add a photo to illustrate a moment. Once uploaded, it appears inline in your entry, and you can drag its edge to resize it to whatever size fits your layout. Images can be up to 5 MB.
- Files — attach any kind of document to an entry. It shows up as a simple row with the file name, its size, and a Download button so you or anyone reading a shared entry can grab the original file. Files can be up to 25 MB.
- PDFs — attach a PDF and read it right inside the entry. Notaday shows the first page with Page X / N navigation, so you can flip through the document without leaving your journal, plus a Download button for the original file.
Everything you attach also shows up in an Attachments list in the sidebar, so you can see at a glance what's part of an entry.
You'll need to save a new entry once before you can start attaching photos, files, or PDFs to it.
Mood, Location, And Weather
Every entry can carry a bit of context about how and where it was written:
- Mood — pick from a range of feelings, from amazing and great down to anxious, sad, or angry.
- Location — note where you were, such as Home, Office, Coffee Shop, Park, Library, or while traveling and commuting.
- Weather — capture the day's weather, from sunny and cloudy to rainy, stormy, snowy, or windy.
This context shows up alongside your entry and helps paint a fuller picture when you look back later.
Reflection Prompts
Entries can also be tagged with a reflection category — gratitude, growth, goals, general reflection, creativity, or mindfulness — to help frame what you were thinking about when you wrote.
Linking Tasks
You can connect tasks to a journal entry right from the sidebar, either by creating a new one or linking something already in your workspace. This is a handy way to tie a reflection to the work it's about.
New entries need to be saved once before you can link tasks to them.
AI Assist
AI Assist lives at the top of the sidebar while you're writing. Give it a short note — a project update, a milestone, a next step — and it turns that rough note into a polished piece of writing you can insert straight into your entry.
To use it:
- Open an existing entry, or start a new one.
- Expand AI Assist in the sidebar.
- Type a short note describing what happened.
- Select Entwurf erzeugen (or press
Ctrl+Enter/Cmd+Enter). - Review the draft that appears in your entry and edit it as you like.
- Save the entry once you're happy with it.
Nothing is saved automatically — the draft is inserted as regular, editable text, so you stay in control before anything is kept.
Sharing An Entry
Want to share something you've written? Open the entry and click the share icon in the header. From the panel that opens, you can:
- Turn public sharing on or off — this creates a unique link anyone can open.
- Copy the link to share it however you like.
- Add a password if you want extra privacy — set, change, or remove it at any time without breaking the link.
- Stop sharing at any point to make the entry private again immediately.
Anyone with the link can read the entry, and signed-in Notaday users can leave comments. Visitors without an account are prompted to sign in with Google before commenting.
If a shared entry is protected with a password, visitors are asked for it before they can read anything.
